Around 1,400 members of Germany's branch of the youth climate movement Fridays for Future were set to meet for a summer congress in the western city of Dortmund on Wednesday.
The meeting, which the organizers have labelled the largest of its kind for the movement, will be held over the course of five days.
The young activists comprised mostly of students will discuss ways to improve networking within the movement as well as important upcoming issues on climate change.
There will be panel discussions and workshops for the activists to exchange ideas on countering climate change and formulate their demands. They will also be able to learn basic rhetoric and campaigning skills.
Fridays for Future was started by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, 16, who has galvanized young people across Europe and beyond with her activism since she began organizing a weekly school strike and rally outside the Swedish parliament in August last year.
The participants at the summer congress will sleep in tents or gym halls, as the congress is being held in a park in the city.
