Ömer Öcalan: The President says DEM Party is a party of Kurdish–Turkish brotherhood

Speaking about his visit with Abdullah Öcalan on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, DEM Party MP Ömer Öcalan said: "The President says the DEM Party is the party of Kurdish and Turkish peoples’ brotherhood."

Ömer Öcalan, MP from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM), along with his cousin Ali Öcalan and two younger relatives, visited Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

Abdullah Öcalan has been held in isolation in Imralı Type-F High-Security Prison for 25 years. Speaking to ANF about the visit, Ömer Öcalan said: "The President gives special meaning to the DEM Party and places great importance on the committee to be formed in Parliament."

The President was in good spirit

Ömer Öcalan said that the visit went very well and that Abdullah Öcalan’s condition and morale were good. Öcalan said it was the first time Abdullah Öcalan had met his cousin Ali and the two children: "The President gave a pen as a gift to each of the children and to me. He said children should have a strong will and should not stay in the background. He wanted them to be strong."

The president wants to. meet with all sides

Referring to his uncle’s remarks about the DEM Party and its mission during their conversation, Ömer Öcalan said: "The President gives a unique meaning to the DEM Party. He says it is not just a Kurdish party but a party of brotherhood between the Kurdish and Turkish peoples. He speaks of a new paradigm suitable for Turkey’s second century. It’s a new paradigm that suggests change is essential for both Kurds and Turks in order to get out of this dead end. This represents innovation in everything, because the current 'clothing' doesn’t fit the 'body', it even distorts the aesthetic. He also places great importance and meaning on the committee to be formed in Parliament, and he wants to meet with all segments of society."
