Three internationalists sent their message from Rojava to the people in their countries who are fighting against the coronavirus pandemic.
Italian Internationalist Berwedan Azad said: "I have come to Rojava around 3 months ago, as an international volunteer, to join the defense of the democratic revolution of Northern Syria. I am here to give a message and talk about the situation of coronavirus in Italia and in Rojava. In the case of Italy, the Italian people is finding itself locked at home without being able to move to avoid the diffusion of coronavirus. The same measures have been applied in Rojava from 25 March until, apparently, May 1st. The measures are more or less the same as in Italy but in Italy there are more than 16,000 dead people."
Berxwedan Azad added: "We hope for Italy to have a stable situation in the next months. The difficult part will probably be, on the economical level, for the population of the small countryside areas to go back out to work and live a normal life. In the case of Rojava, the situation is little bit more complex, concerning the prevention of coronavirus, and therefore the help of the international community is needed to provide medical stuff and verify if the following of infected people is accurate. A salute to all Italians and Kurds and inhabitants of the Northern Syrian Confederation, and Victory!"
Mexican internationalist: This virus has revealed the lies of the rulers of the world
Mexican internationalist Şevger Zabata said: "I came to Rojava 2 months ago. I received military and ideological training here. I came to Rojava mainly to help the people.
This virus has revealed the lies of the rulers of the world. It is us, the people, who are damaged by the coronavirus. The upper classes, the rulers are not harmed. They have the opportunity to look after themselves. This is the case in Mexico. The president is trying to protect himself by telling lies. I call on the Mexican people to resist and fight against the rulers and those who spread this virus."
Catalan Internationalist: The pandemic brought about a loss of democracy
A Catalan internationalist, Rok Brossa, working on social projects in Rojava said: "From Rojava we want to send a message of solidarity in the face of the coronavirus crisis. First of all, show our respect for those who fight day after day against this crisis, especially the health personnel who work in hospitals and primary care centers. Also our solidarity goes to those who organize every day to help the most disadvantaged people.
We also want to denounce the loss of democracy in the Spanish State due to the strong measures of social control and the militarization that is taking place.
It is important to continue resisting, to continue fighting, with mutual support networks, with rent strikes, with counter-information"
The young internationalist continued: "We also want to denounce the situation awaiting us in the future. We hear a lot of talks about an economic collapse, of a collapse of capitalism. We know what happened the last time that we lived a crisis: economic and social measures were taken to help the rich to be richer, the poor to be poorer.
In Rojava we have learned the importance of organizing ourselves and organizing a society that we can defend in all its dimensions. The capacity for self-defense and organization that we can develop today will be our possible salvation tomorrow against these advances of fascism, before a pauperization of society and a deepening in the dynamics of capitalism."
