Newroz celebration in Buenos Aires

Kurdish New Year Newroz was celebrated in Buenos Aires under the slogan “A democratic society and peace in Kurdistan”.

Kurdish New Year Newroz was celebrated in Buenos Aires under the slogan “A democratic society and peace in Kurdistan”.

The event, hosted by ATE-Nacional, included speeches on the Kurdish freedom movement and culture. The history of Newroz and its meaning for the Kurdish people were highlighted through various activities.

Throughout the night, music groups from Buenos Aires, a dance team from the Armenian community and songs by artist Georgia Andino with guitar performance added color to the event.


Many representatives of women's movement and human rights defenders attended the event and made speeches. The speakers emphasized that the women's revolution in Kurdistan has created great excitement and hope all over the world, and that the perspective of Democratic Confederalism spreading from Kurdistan is gradually increasing its influence on a global scale. 

The speakers pointed out that this year's Newroz celebration consolidated the thousands of years of resistance and gave impetus to the unity of peoples with the fire of freedom reaching from Kurdistan to Argentina. In addition to the Newroz martyrs, Alina Sanchez, who made great contributions to the Kurdish freedom movement, and environmental activist Berta Cáceres were also commemorated at the event. 

Kurdish cuisine was served at the celebration, which ended with dance and enthusiastic chants of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom).
