Osman: Terrorism rhetoric no longer hides the Kurdish issue

Muhsin Osman, former member of the Parliament of Iraq, said Turkey can no longer cover up the Kurdish issue with terrorism rhetoric.

Politician Muhsin Osman emphasized that Abdullah Öcalan’s call is a reflection of the will and political maturity of the Kurdish people. He stated, “This call is not merely a message of disarmament or ceasefire; it is also strategic guidance that revives the spirit of national unity.”

Muhsin Osman told ANF that Mr. Öcalan’s call for ‘Peace and a Democratic Society’ represents a critical turning point not only for the resolution of the Kurdish question, but also for the democratization of Turkey. Osman emphasized that the call will have positive repercussions both regionally and internationally. He said: “Mr. Öcalan’s call has once again shown the world that the Kurdish people stand for peace.”

Armed struggle was a necessity

Osman stated that the Kurdish people were pushed into armed struggle, not by choice but by historical necessity. He said: “The Kurdish people have never desired war. They were forced into armed resistance because their identity and existence were denied. Today, however, Mr. Öcalan’s call demonstrates that the true intentions of the Kurds are peace, equal citizenship, and a democratic society. As borders and political balances are being reshaped in the Middle East, this process opens the door to a peaceful solution for the Kurdish people. Mr. Öcalan’s call is not only a hopeful step for Turkey, but also for all the peoples of the region.”

Responsibility lies with the Turkish government

Muhsin Osman emphasized that following the call, the responsibility now rests with the Turkish government. He underlined that steps taken toward peace and democratization will not only resolve the Kurdish issue but also move Turkey forward as a whole. Stressing that the proper management of this process would be a historic achievement, Osman said: “Turkey can no longer dismiss the Kurdish issue with terrorism rhetoric. With this call, those arguments have lost their validity. The Kurdish people are no longer at the mercy of their enemies’ propaganda. Mr. Öcalan’s call is a reflection of the will and political maturity of the Kurdish people. This call must be heard. Now it is Turkey’s turn to respond.”

A historic turning point

Muhsin Osman drew attention to the Kurdish people’s will for a peaceful solution and stated that civil society, political circles, and the international community must support this process. Osman said, “Mr. Öcalan’s call is a historic turning point,” and underlined the importance of providing a proper response.

Reviving the spirit of national unity

Osman stated that the new phase, which opens the door to historic opportunities for the Kurdish people, has become even clearer with the 'Democratic Society and Peace' call. He said, “This call is not merely a message of disarmament or a cessation of conflict; it is also a form of strategic guidance that revives the spirit of national unity across all four parts of Kurdistan. What truly matters is that the Kurds defend their rights with a spirit of national unity and this call lays the foundation for exactly that.”

Kurds must actively engage in the process

Osman stated that with this call, Kurds not only within Turkey but also across all parts of Kurdistan and in Europe must adopt a proactive and strategic stance. He said that “When Mr. Öcalan made this call, he adopted an approach that included all four parts of Kurdistan as well as the Kurdish diaspora in Europe. This makes it clear that the call is not a temporary tactic, but part of a long-term strategy. In this context, Kurds must embrace this process not only politically, but also economically, culturally, and diplomatically.”

The failure of centralized state models

Muhsin Osman described the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the transitional government in Damascus as a very significant and positive development. He added: “This agreement shows that the demands of the Kurds are gaining international recognition, and that the ceasefire process is of vital importance for political dialogue. The new trade corridor will pass through the western region (Rojava) and the southern region (Başûr). This means the region now needs stability and peace instead of conflict. The Kurds can see this period as an opportunity. Around the world, decentralized state models are increasingly being favored, and this presents a major opportunity for the Kurdish people in the Middle East.”
