Bodyguards of Tatvan's AKP mayor attack journalist Aygül

The bodyguards of Tatvan's AKP mayor attacked journalist Sinan Aygül. Condemning the attack, the HDP said: "Take your hands off the journalists."

Journalist Sinan Aygül, who had been writing about the corruption and land sales of the municipality of Tatvan for a while, was attacked by the bodyguards of the AKP Municipality mayor, Emin Geylani. Aygül, who was battered in the head and many parts of the body, was taken to the hospital.

Aygül wrote on his social media account: "I was attacked by the armed bodyguards of mayor Mehmet Emin Geylani in Tatvan a little while ago. They got out of the municipal vehicle, hit me on the head from behind, insulted and threatened me to death. I am being taken to Tatvan State Hospital."

HDP: Hands off journalists

The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) condemned the attack with a statement saying: "It is shameful for politicians to encourage attacks that put the lives of journalists in danger. Take your hands off the journalists!"
