Turkey correspondent for German daily Die Welt, Deniz Yücel who was taken into custody on February 14 has been referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan Monday evening.
Yücel testified for nearly 3,5 hours to Deputy Prosecutor Hasan Yılmaz at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror and Organised Crimes Investigation Bureau, after which he was referred to a vacation court with a demand for his arrest for "spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization" and "inciting the public to hostility and enmity". He was remanded in custody for the mentioned charges.
It has been learned that the questions directed to Yücel during his interrogation included his interview with KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council Co-President Cemil Bayık in 2015, and his reports on Cizre, Yüksekova and Turkey's policy toward South Kurdistan and Mosul.
