Journalist Pınar Gayip was sentenced to 1 year, 2 months and 17 days in prison for "insulting a police officer".

The verdict was announced in the case filed against Etkin News Agency (ETHA) editor Pınar Gayip for allegedly insulting the police officers who attacked the condolence tent set up for Ivana Hoffmann, who lost her life in Kobanê in Izmir in 2015.

Gayip was sentenced to 1 year, 2 months and 17 days in prison for "chaining and openly insulting public officials". The court postponed the announcement of the verdict. Gayip's lawyer, Özge Büşra Boyoğlu, stated that they would object to the decision.
