The French state that has long remained silent on Turkey’s fascistic practices has finally reacted to Turkey for jailing a French journalist.
French President Emmanuel Macron called his counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via phone and demanded an immediate release of jailed journalist Loup Bureau.
A statement by the Élysée Palace said that: “The two Presidents agreed on the continuation of contacts at ministerial level in order for the achievement of a favourable outcome in the soonest time.”
Macron had voiced his concerns over the jailed French journalist on August 15 and an appeal filed by lawyers for his release had been rejected on Friday.
The 27 years old French journalist Loup Bureau crossed into Şırnak from Southern Kurdistan on July 26, and was detained for having photographs of YPG fighters on his person. Bureau, working for TV5 Monde and Arte televisions, is accused of membership to the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK).
The French government is often criticised for its silence on the fascistic practices in Turkey.
