As Turkey's attacks on guerrilla areas continue, two guerrilla fighters have been martyred in the latest attacks that are concentrated in Zap and Metîna regions. Guerrillas are responding to the attacks within the framework of legitimate self-defense.
Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month. On April 7, two guerrillas were martyred in the Çirav area in Garê region as a result of two bombardments carried out by an UCAV of the occupying Turkish army. On April 11, two guerrillas were martyred as a result of Turkish attacks with chemical weapons and banned explosives in the Zap region.
The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.
In a statement on Friday, the HPG Press Center said that the Turkish army heavily bombed the guerrilla areas in the Medya Defense Zones with explosive-laden drones, howitzers, and heavy weapons. While the Turkish army's attacks are mainly concentrated on guerrilla tunnels in the Metîna and Şehîd Delîl Western Zap regions, the tunnels of the guerrillas were also bombed with explosives.
As a result of the attacks, guerrilla fighters Welat and Bawer were martyred on May 27 and May 30, 2025, respectively, said the HPG, adding that the detailed personal information of the fallen fighters would be announced later.
“Our forces have responded duly against ongoing attacks within the framework of legitimate self-defense. As long as the Turkish army continues its occupation activities and attacks aimed at destroying the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas, our forces will continue to respond as necessary to protect themselves,” the statement said.
HPG shared the following information regarding the attacks against guerrilla forces and the response by the guerrillas:
"Attacks carried out by the Turkish army:
Between May 30 and June 4, our tunnels in the Serê Metîna and Şêlazê Resistance Areas in the Metîna region were bombed 15 times, and our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were bombed with explosives 13 times.
Between May 29 and June 4, our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were shelled 17 times, and our tunnels in the Şêlazê Resistance Area in the Metîna region were targeted by bulldozers and drilling equipment 19 times in an attempt to destroy them.
Between May 29 and June 4, the areas of Girê Zengil, Kanî Sarkê, Dêreşê, Mijê, Zêvkê, Deşta Kafya, Girgaşê, Spîndarê, Girê Kun, Guzê in the Garê region, the areas of Serê Metîna, Şêlazê, Bazê, Bêşîlî in the Metîna region, and the Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar Resistance Areas in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were heavily bombed with heavy weapons and howitzers.
Our forces' response
On May 30 at 08:10, targets in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck, and one vehicle equipped with a radar system was damaged.
On May 30 at 11:20 and 13:40, targets in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck; a container and a tent were destroyed, and a member of the occupation forces was killed.
On May 31, at 08:40 and 13:30, enemy forces attacking our tunnels in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were hit; one invader was killed and two invaders were wounded.
On May 31 at 2:00 p.m., a drone loaded with explosives set to attack our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was shot down and destroyed.
On June 1 at 06:40, targets in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck; a container was destroyed and an occupier was killed.
On June 1 at 2:36 p.m., heavy weapons were used to respond to provocative calls made by the enemy toward our forces in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region.
On June 2 at 1:00 p.m., targets in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were hit and one tent was damaged.
On June 4 at 6:45 p.m., an armored bulldozer conducting roadwork for occupation purposes was struck and destroyed in the Bêşîlî Resistance Area in the Metîna region."
