207 prisoners released after amnesty in South Kurdistan

207 prisoners were released after President of Federal Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani declared an amnesty.

The amnesty was declared on the eve of Edi al-Adha for non-violent criminals.

207 prisoners returned their homes this morning after they were released from Arbil, Suleymaniyah and Duhok prisons.

Eid al-Adha or "Festival of Sacrifice" is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Isma'il) as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a ram to sacrifice instead.

In Islam countries the rulers or governments usually declare amnesty in Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.
