83-year-old seriously ill prisoner hospitalized

Mehmet Emin Özkan, jailed in Diyarbakır D Type Prison despite serious health problems, was hospitalised again. The 83-year-old has been in prison for 25 years and has suffered five heart attacks and angiography four times so far.

83-year-old seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Özkan was taken to Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital every day between May 17 and 20 subsequent to a repeated worsening of health condition.

Admitted by internal medicine service on May 20, he was taken back to prison since he rejected treatment in handcuffs to the bed.

According to reports, Özkan felt sick and was taken to Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital again. His family and relatives were not allowed to contact him.

The elderly prisoner was reportedly taken back to prison following the procedures in hospital.

Özkan has been in prison for 25 years and has suffered five heart attacks and angiography four times so far. He has many health problems, such as blood pressure, osteoporosis, kidney and intestinal disorders, extreme weight loss, hearing-vision deficiency, memory loss.
