Şenyaşar family moves Justice Vigil to Antep

The Şenyaşar family brought the Justice Vigil to the Antep Court of Appeal to draw attention to the case of imprisoned family member Fadıl Şenyaşar.

The Justice Vigil carried out by the Şenyaşar family has reached day 357. The vigil was launched on 9 March 2021 by Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons as a result of the attack carried out by AKP Deputy İbrahim Halil Yıldız's bodyguards and relatives, in Suruç, province of Urfa, on 14 June 2018.

The vigil has been carried out since then in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit, who survived the attack. But today, the family moved the vigil in front of the Antep Regional Court of Justice  to draw attention to the case of family member Fadıl Şenyaşar, who was arrested after being injured during the attack by the AKP.

Fadıl Şenyaşar was sentenced to 37 years and 9 months in prison at the hearing of his ongoing trial in Malatya on April 2, 2021.

The Şenyaşar family, who came in front of the courthouse in Antep early in the morning, and said: "They killed my 2 children and my husband in the hospital! There is not a single prisoner. One of my sons has been imprisoned in a single cell for 4 years. I want my son to be released! #ŞenyaşarAilesineAdalet Justice for all!”.

Bülent Duran, the family's lawyer, also participated in the action. Speaking during the statement made in front of the building, Ferit Şenyaşar said: "We were attacked at our workplace, 3 of our people were brutally murdered inside Suruç State Hospital. The judiciary did not act because it was a member of the ruling party who committed the massacre."

Ferit added: "The massacre was not enough, my brother Fadıl Şenyaşar has been imprisoned in a solitary cell for 4 years. The case is now at the court of appeal. Today, we will continue our vigil here. We will request a meeting with the delegation that looks at the decision. We will explain this unlawfulness. We will continue to fight until justice is served."

After the statement, the family, together with lawyer Bülent Duran, filed an objection petition to the Antep Region 2nd Criminal Division of Appeal, regarding the rejection of Fadıl Şenyaşar's release request dated 9 December 2021.
