Over hundred and fifty academics have relased a declaration about the ongoing hunger strike by political prisoners. They called on all section of the society to act in order to help finding a solution to the hunger strikeAcademics stated that the Kurdish problem and demands of Kurdish people will become the main topic of all their academic activities until Kurdish prisoners are provided with the right to defend themselves in their mother language, the ending of solitary confinement of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and the government re-initiates peace negotiations.
The declaration by academics said that; “The current situation in Turkey corresponds to an unrecoverable disaster as the people of this territory as well as the society and nature have been subjected to a great moral and material destruction by the war going on for 30 years now. Boundless violence has been handed down from generation to generation and committed to social memory with all its destructive power. The war should urgently be ended and political possibilities should be created to heal the deep wounds it has inflicted on people. We are here and we call on all occupational groups to take urgent steps for peace”.
