After Adana today women will march in Istanbul against rape

Women took Adana streets for freedom and against rape. Members of Women Movement for Democracy and Freedom (DKOH) organized the march in the context of the campaign started on May 15th all around Turkey. The biggest march will be held today in Istanbul.

The campaign named “Up the Fight for Freedom and Beat Rape” is organizing several meetings with women. Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Adana Branch chair spoke at a meeting in Adana.

Emine Kavak, member of DKOH addressed the women at the meeting: “Sexual harassment and rape are not our fate. They tried to put women under the domination of a certain type of culture, society and economic system. And this system is the same which tries to assimilate Kurds by destroying, torturing, raping, forcing immigration, poverty and unemployment. In other words, this is a system which rape rights. The last victims of this policy in Adana are Menekse Ertekin, who was forced to commit suicide and Derya Demiralp, who was killed by her husband. We will keep on fighting against all policy of suppression and intimidation until democratic and ethical society will be established.”
