Ahmet Türk to stand trial

Banned politician and former Chairman of the illegalized DTP (Democratic Society Party), Ahmet Türk, was sued by Ankara Chief Public Prosecution in charges of speaking Kurdish in Turkish Assembly during the group meeting of the party.

Türk’s words “The people must express their feelings and ideas in their mother languages at 21 February World Language Feast.” and his following up his speech in Kurdish on 24 February 2009 were found against the 81. Article of 2820 nb. Political Parties Law.

On the bill of indictment, prosecutor asked for Türk to be charged in accordance with the 117. article of Political Parties Law as follows; “Who commits the banned crimes written in the forth part of this law are sentenced to imprisonment at least 6 months unless the act requires a heavier sentence.”

It is stated that the bill of indictment submitted to Ankara 3. Court of General Sessions was accepted and Turk’s trial is expected to start in the coming days.
