Another prisoner died in East Kurdistan jail

Imprisoned for 18 years in Urmiye/East Kurdistan prison, Kurdish political Zahir Mistevewi lost his life under unclear circumstances. In the last five months, 7 Kurdish prisoners have lost their lives under unclear circumstances.

According to the statement released by human rights defenders, 44 year-old Zahir Mistevewi lost his life on 12 May in Urmiye jail after an 18 years long detention marked by tortures, illnesses and deportations.

Although doctors had stated that he needed to be treated out of the jail, the jail management didn’t give him any permission. Besides, no explanation has been made as yet as to the cause of death. Kurdish political prisoners can by no means getting any permission to be treated outside prison for instance, while the Iranian regime gives other prisoners the right to go out within the frame of laws.

The regime has recently increased the pressure and aggression against Kurdish prisoners. During the unfair and few minutes long trials, Kurdish prisoners are sentenced with death penalty; while the number of suspicious deaths have recently increased.

7 KURDISH PRISONERS KILLED IN 5 MONTHS

Judicial prisoner Ýrec Xemengiz lost his life in unclear circumstances on 18 April in Urmiye city. When other prisoners protested his death, private forces Commander Ekber Piþewer and the guardians assaulted them. Hit many times on the head during the assault, prisoner Seyfedin Yehyazade lost his life.

The corpse of Ahmedi Tahir, who was detained in Piranþehir in East Kurdistan and subjected to torture for three months, was given to his family in the first week of April. With the last death, at least 7 Kurdish prisoners, many of them political, died under unclear circumstances in Iran jails in the last 5 months.
