Appeals for two young Kurds intensify as death nears

The families of Lokman and Zanyar Muradi, two jailed Kurdish politicians facing the risk of imminent execution by the Iranian regime, called for urgent action to stop the execution of their two sons. ”Our children are not guilty. The offense here is the death penalty given to our children: this is a crime against humanity”, said the Muradi families.

Zanyar's father Ýkbal Muradi remarked that the Iranian regime has been trying to fabricate evidences to have the two young Kurds executed, and explained the reason for the arrest of the two Kurds as follows; “Our sons were first arrested for alleged ties with English agents and opponent Kurdish organizations. They were later put on trial on charges of killing the son of Imam Cuma and sentenced to death penalty following a fifteen-minutes show trial. The most recent development concerning their penalty has been the attempt of the Ministry of Intelligence to convince Imam Cuma to bear testimony on our children. I hope the Imam will not resort to slander which is one of the greatest sins in Islam. Our children have been tortured for months and they were forced to commit crimes they had not committed, however no element of a crime has been found out so far to prove the allegations and charges they are facing. The repression on political prisoners is a consequence of the political attitude towards them. The Iranian regime is now supposed to become tolerant of the people thinking differently from the regime.”

Zanyar Muradi’s mother Amin Qadri said that her son, who she says hasn't turned 18 yet, has never taken part in an armed action and added; “He was sentenced to death for being a Kurd. They are trying to incriminate our children despite the lack of any concrete evidences.” Mother Muradi also called on democratic public opinion and human right defenders to raise their voice against the death penalties ordered by the Iranian regime.
