Asrın Law Office made a new application to the CPT in relation to Abdullah Öcalan, who has not been heard from for 38 months, and the other 3 prisoners in Imralı.

According to Mezopotamya News Agency, Asrın Law Office made a new application to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) in relation to their client, Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been kept in absolute isolation in Imralı F-Type High Security Prison and has not been heard from for 38 months. In the application, developments covering the period between 1 February and 30 April 2024 and related to both Abdullah Öcalan and the other 3 prisoners in İmralı, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş were included.

The file sent to the CPT stated that a total of 37 applications, including 25 lawyers and 12 family visit applications, were made between 1 February and 30 April, but all of them were left unanswered.

The application also said that no letters were delivered to the lawyers during this process, and that the fate of the 4 letters sent to Imralı was unknown. In addition, the lawyers said that there was no development regarding telephone call rights.

New disciplinary punishment

The lawyers said that applications for family and lawyer visits have been blocked under the pretext of "disciplinary punishment" at least 22 times since 14 September 2018, and added that a new 3-month "disciplinary penalty" was imposed on 28 March, before the last "disciplinary penalty" dated 12 January 2024 expired. It was pointed out that the process in question was carried out without informing the lawyers and was finalized on 12 April, contrary to the law. The lawyers said that the right to defense of their clients was constantly denied.
