According to the ‘September 2024 Work Killings Report’ released by the Workers’ Health and Safety Assembly (ISIG), at least 152 workers, including 11 women, lost their lives in September and 1,371 workers lost their lives in the first nine months of the year.

The report stated that 3 of those who lost their lives in September were child workers and 10 were refugees. At least 66 of the workers who have died in the last 90 months were child workers.

According to the report, most workplace deaths occurred in the construction sector. Workplace deaths according to the branches of work were listed as follows:

“42 workers in the construction, road sector; 33 workers in the agriculture and forestry sector (18 workers and 15 farmers); 23 workers in the transport sector; 8 workers in the trade, office, education, cinema sector; 7 workers in the mining sector; 7 workers in the metal sector; 6 workers in the accommodation, entertainment sector; 6 workers in municipality, general works sector; 4 workers in the wood, paper industry; 4 workers in the defence, security industry; 2 workers in the food, sugar industry; 2 workers in the petro-chemical, rubber industry; 2 workers in the cement, soil, glass industry; and 6 workers whose line of work we could not determine in the light of the available data.”
