BDP plans new actions to support hunger strike

Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) released new plan of action to deal with the ongoing hunger strike in prisons. “We can't lose a single minute” is the slogan defining the new action plan.

In the letter signed by co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaþ and Gültan Kýþanak and sent to all provincial and district organizations, BDP called for the “step up of democratic actions to support the fair resistance of prisoners on hunger strike”.

BDP remarked that the party supported the demands and protest by prisoners since the very beginning and pointed out that the fulfillment of these demands will also pave the way for a democratic, political and peaceful solution to the Kurdish problem.

The party stated that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoðan and AKP government’s attitude towards the hunger strike isn’t making any contribution to end the protest or to solve the Kurdish issue. This approach could instead lead to sad consequences, it warned.

According to the letter, mass demonstrations will be staged in Cizre (Þýrnak) on 10 November, in Siirt on 11th, in Istanbul on the 12th and in Van on the 19th.

BDP members will once again voice the demands of prisoners in a demonstration in front of Mardin prison on 13 November.

All provincial and district organizations of the party will organize marches to prisons with hunger strikers on the 11th.
