A book on the liberation process of women freedom fighters through portraits of 11 female guerrillas, “The womanly state of the mountain,” has been banned in Amed D Type Prison.
The book which was prepared by ANF and ETHA reporter Arzu Demir was sent to two inmates in Amed D Type Prison, Welat Yıldız and Ercan Kurt, at their request from the publishing house Ceylan Publications.
The education unit of the prison, however, did not hand over the book to the prisoners on the grounds that it consisted a text and images favouring a crime and its perpetrators and spreading propaganda for an illegal organisation.
Welat Yıldız, one of the prisoners who requested the book, sent a fax to the press saying: “İsn’t it most strange that a book is banned for making propaganda of an organisation and not handed over to a person who has been sentenced for being a member of that organisation?”.
In the meantime, Yıldız whose application to Amed Court has been rejected, will take the case to a higher court and, if necessary, to the ECtHR. Welat said: “What else can we do? They ban and we appeal”.
The same book was not handed over previously to an inmate by the name of Bariş Inan in Kandıra F Type prison although there exists no legal proceedings against it.
