Californian Kurds on solidarity hunger strike

California Kurdish Community Center (CKCC) members have decided to go on a symbolic hunger strike in support of the Kurdish political prisoners on Hunger strike.

We publish below the letter they have written:

Hello friends,

As the hunger strike in Turkey has reached its critical point, some of our friends from the community as well as some of our CKCC members have decided to go on a Symbolic Hunger Strike in support of the Kurdish Political Prisoners on Hunger Strike reaching it's 54th day.

The hunger strike will be starting this Sunday, Nov 4th, 2012 and ending by the morning of Wednesday Nov 7th, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

Each group will be on a hunger strike for one day and the next group will take over. We will be getting together with the strikers at the Community Center during this Symbolic Hunger Strike.

If you also would like to join the hunger strike or give your support to the strikers please feel free to come to California Kurdish Community Center's office @ 353 Beach Road, Burlingame, CA 94010 and sit with us.

The hunger strikers have the below demands from the Turkish Government:

1) provisions to use their mother language in education and the public sphere,

2) the removal of obstacles preventing imprisoned Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan from negotiating with the Turkish state, and

3) the recognition of the right to use Kurdish language in Turkish courts

“Kurds have suffered harsh and brutal repression in their struggle for elementary rights. The brave hunger strikers deserve our support, and help in achieving all just demands” (Noam Chomsky, signed in below petition)
