Condition of ill prisoners Tikit and Özçelik worsening

IHD demanded the release of ill prisoners in Turkish jails.

The Human Rights Association (IHD) called for the release of all ill prisoners. The situation of two ill prisoners were highlighted in Ankara and Istanbul branches of the association.

The Freedom for Ill Prisoners Initiative drew attention to the situation of Pınar Tikit, in Sincan Women's Closed Prison, during the 314th week of their actions.

Speaking at the meeting held at the Ankara Branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD), IHD Central Executive Board (MYK) Member Nuray Çevirmen said that Tikit has been diagnosed with an arachroid cyst in her brain and was transferred from Bayburt Prison to Sincan Women's Closed Prison in May 2017.

Stating that the tumor in Tikit's brain is 8 cm in size, Çevirmen added: "Surgery is necessary. Tikit said in her last letter that quarantine rooms are not a solution and do not provide the necessary hygiene conditions."

ISTANBUL

The Prison Commission of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch drew attention to the situation of ill prisoner Kemal Özçelik, in Tekirdağ No 2 F Type Prison during the 442nd week of their F sit-in. The statement was made through social media accounts due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Mehmet Acettin drew attention to the condition of ill prisoner Özçelik and gave information about his health "64-year-old prisoner Kemal Özçelik had a heart surgery 10 years ago, three vessels were replaced. However, Özçelik continues to have heart problems as well as diabetes, hypertension and severe kidney disease. He has difficulties walking and remains in prison despite being at even higher risk because of the coronavirus threat.”

The IHD demanded the release of Özçelik and all ill prisoners.
