DTK members go on hunger strike in Diyarbakýr

A group of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) council members started an indefinite-irreversible hunger strike on Wednesday in solidarity with the fast of Kurdish prisoners going on in Turkey prisons for 57 days.

The hunger strike by DTK members has been launched to support the democratic resistance of Kurds and will reportedly continue until the prisoners end their action.

In a statement in front of the DTK building in Diyarbakýr where the strike takes place, Council members criticized the government for taking no concrete steps concerning the demands highlighted by prisoners. Underlining that the fast by prisoners has entered a ‘highly critical phase’ that shouldn’t be approached with an unsatisfactory attitude, the politicians said that; “No one can remain silent in this critical period when the government is expected to take the necessary steps to ensure a democratic solution to the Kurdish problem in the face of the fact that an unfavorable situation at this phase will irrecoverably damage the emotional tie between peoples”.

The statement by Council members ended calling on the Kurdish people and the democratic opinion to enhance democratic resistance by supporting the common demands highlighted by prisoners.
