Freedom for Ecevit Piroğlu Initiative members chain themselves to UN gates

While members of the Freedom for Ecevit Piroğlu Initiative chain themselves to the bars in front of the UN building in Geneva, Mehmet Yozcu continues his hunger strike for the third day.

The hunger strike launched in Geneva demanding the requests of Turkish revolutionary Ecevit Piroğlu to be met entered its third day. Piroğlu is imprisoned in Serbia waiting for extradition to Turkey and is on hunger strike against this unlawfulness.

Mehmet Yozcu, one of the members of the Freedom for Ecevit Piroğlu Initiative, announced that he had started an indefinite and irreversible hunger strike after the press statement on Wednesday in front of the United Nations office in Geneva.

Mehmet Yozcu continued his hunger strike at the Geneva Kurdish Community Center. Speaking on behalf of the Initiative, Semra Uzunok said: “Ecevit Piroğlu has been unjustly and unlawfully arrested by the Serbian authorities as a result of the pressures by the Turkish state, and all his democratic rights have been taken away from him. We want our comrade Ecevit Piroğlu, who has been on death fast for 125 days, to see his demands met and we want him to be released as soon as possible."

On Thursday evening, members of the Initiative, who went to the UN, chained themselves to the bars at the entrance of the building.

Shouting slogans demanding the release of Ecevit Piroğlu, the group made a press statement.

Mehmet Yozcu will continue his hunger strike at the Lausanne Democratic Kurdish Community Center tomorrow.
