A group of activists from Oldenburg took over the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil which entered its 470th week. The action was launched on 25 June 2012.

Dadaş Kutlucuoğlu, Rehan Ciziri, Medya Halil and Avesta Ciziri took over the Vigil which is carried out in Strasbourg where the main European institutions are. Activists have been demanding freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan every day, for nine years, in what is known to be the longest peaceful protest in Europe.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Dadaş Kutlucuoğlu said: “We took over the Vigil for the leader because Öcalan is our life, our existence, our language, our culture and art, our nation. If a person wants to protect his breath, he must protect the leadership.”

Kutlucuoğlu condemned the Turkish state recent attacks on guerrillas in South Kurdistan and denounced the use of chemical weapons.
