HDP co-chair Pervin Buldan sent a message to Argentinan Plaza de Mayo Mothers to pay tribute to one of their founders, Carmen Cobo, who passed away on Saturday.

Buldan said in her message: “I have sadly learned that dear Carmen Cobo, one of the founders of the Plaza de Mayo Mothers, who struggled to find their missing children in Argentina, passed away.

Thanks to those who have struggled for years to find their missing relatives, especially the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo. Carmen Cobo and the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, as relatives of the disappeared, became a source of inspiration for our struggle in Galatasaray. Her struggle will live in our memories.”

Carmen Rodino Cobo was one of the first women who went out to look for their children and to fight against the civic-military dictatorship. Her husband was also a militant and Carmen suffered persecution long before the dictatorship and she knew of torture and kidnapping.

Her daughter, Ines, disappeared on 1 September 1976. She was three months pregnant. Carmen Cobo had been searching for her daughter and grandchild ever since.
