IHD Amed Branch calls for immediate release of 83-year-old prisoner Özkan

IHD Amed Branch said that 83-year-old seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Özkan is in serious condition and demanded his immediate release.

The Human Rights Association (IHD) Amed Branch issued a written statement regarding 83-year-old seriously ill prisoner Mehmet Emin Özkan.

The IHD's statement is as follows: "Mehmet Emin Özkan is one of the seriously ill prisoners currently in jail. He suffered a heart attack five times during his 26 years’ detention. He suffered from chronic diseases such as blood pressure and has serious kidneys problems. He has also lost most of his hearing and vision. Özkan cannot meet his personal needs in prison and is taken back and forward to hospital, always handcuffed.

The IHD said this treatment amounts to a violation of his right to life and added: “We call on the Ministry of Justice to end this unlawful treatment in the prison and demand Özkan release.”
