The IHD Istanbul Branch Prisons Commission made a statement in front of its association building during the 677th week of the "F Sit-in" protests. The statement noted that the health condition of ill prisoner Uğur Ok, who is being held in Ankara Sincan No. 1 High-Security Prison, is worsening day by day.
Banners reading 'Medical treatment is a right and cannot be obstructed' and 'Release ill prisoners' were displayed during the protest. Participants frequently chanted slogans such as 'Release ill prisoners” and “Isolation kills, solidarity keeps alive.'
Along with IHD co-chair Eren Keskin, many human rights defenders attended the protest.
Ankara
In the protest held in Ankara, the Freedom for Ill Prisoners Initiative, during its 551st week of action, drew attention to the situation of Adnan Öztel, who is being held in Tekirdağ No. 1 F-Type Closed Prison.
Speaking at the event on Sakarya Street, IHD Central Executive Committee (MYK) member Nuray Çevirmen stated that Öztel was not taken to a hospital for six years after his arrest in 2004.
The protests emphasized the need for the release of ill prisoners.
