IHD exposes situation of ill prisoners

Statements were made in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir to emphasize the situation of ill prisoners Ismail Tamboğa, Emin Aladağ and Ekim Polat.

The Freedom for Ill Prisoners Initiative in Ankara drew attention to the situation of 22-year-old ill prisoner Ismail Tamboğa in the 349th week of their action.

Nuray Çevirmen from the Human Rights Association (IHD) Central Executive Board (MYK), made statement about Ismail Tamboğa, who was arrested when he was 16 years old and kept in Iskenderun T Type Closed Prison for 6 years.

Sharing that Tamboğa has dropped to 38 kilos at the moment, Çevirmen said that his health condition worsened in prison.

Çevirmen added thatTanboğa was subjected to many violations of rights in prison and said that the place of a prisoner suffering from such serious health problems is not prison.

ISTANBUL

The Prison Commission of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch issued a statement on social media this week because of the coronavirus pandemic. Mehmet Acettin, member of the Commission, read the statement at this week's action, which drew attention to the situation of Emin Aladağ, held in Van High Security Prison.

Acettin said that the referral and treatment of ill prisoners in hospitals was interrupted under the pretext of the pandemic.

Acettin said that Emin Aladağ has been imprisoned for 26 years and added: “Emin Aladağ was detained and arrested in 1993 and started to have difficulty in walking due to the osteoporosis that developed in his right arm and left leg as a result of severe torture. Released in 1998, Emin Aladağ was arrested in 2000 as a result of the approval of his life sentence, despite his progressive illness, and was put in Van High Security Prison and has been held in this prison without treatment for 22 years.”

Acettin said that all the applications made by lawyers for the release and treatment of Aladağ were rejected.

IZMIR

Human Rights Association Izmir Branch Prison Commission drew attention to the situation of ill prisoner Ekim Polat (24) and asked for his release.

The online statement was read by IHD executive Ahmet Çiçek who said that Polat was deported from Akhisar T-Type Prison to Denizli T-Type Closed Prison on 28 December 2020 without any justification.

Çiçek added that during the transfer to the new prison torture was inflicted on him and said: “Polat suffers from heart disease and osteoporosis which were detected two years ago.
