Ill prisoner Selahattin Genç, who was arrested in Şırnak in 1993, suffered partial paralysis while in Diyarbakır T Type Closed Prison on 16 February. Genç, who was paralyzed in his left arm, was sent back to prison after 2 days of treatment in the hospital where he was taken. Genç's wife, Ayşe Genç, said that her husband has one year of his sentence left to serve and demanded that he be released.

Ayşe Genç said that her husband had heart problems before, and that he had lung inflammation, bronchitis and asthma, and that his condition was getting worse.

'Treatment has been denied'

Ayşe said: "Selahattin has been in prison for 29 years and 2 months. He was taken to Elazig Prison when he was arrested. He was then transferred to different prisons, like Midyat, Kırıkkale, Şırnak and Rize. He had several surgeries before. First he had surgery on the large intestine. Later he had an infection in his liver. As his condition deteriorated, he also suffered a stroke. The last time I went to see him, he was barely able to walk, his arms and legs were shaking. Even before he was paralyzed, he had difficulty meeting his needs."

Ayşe Genç stated that the prevention of her husband's treatment caused his illness to worsen and added: "We want him to be released. He is not treated in prison and such an ill person should be treated in hospital. In addition to these diseases, he also has bronchitis and asthma. My husband needs to be treated. A person who suffers a stroke should be under the supervision of a doctor for at least a week. But he only stayed in the hospital for 2 days and then he was sent back to prison."
