Bitlis Co-mayor Hüseyin Olan who was arrested on November 25, 2016 and Hizan Co-mayor İhsan Uğur on December 14, 2016 as part of the AKP government’s political genocide operations are being kept in solitary confinement for weeks without a reason.

Human rights violations, forced transfers and isolation have peaked as prisons were transformed into torture chambers after the declaration of the state of emergency.

CELLS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Hizan Co-mayor İhsan Uğur’s sister Raife Ergül stated that her brother was forcibly transferred to Elazığ No:2 F type prison after he was brought from Bitlis prison to Amed for hearing in KCK main case.

Raife Ergül noted that İhsan Uğur has been kept in solitary confinement for weeks in Elazığ without a reason, and continued: "One day before he was taken to Elazığ prison, the administration of Bitlis prison called us and said that he was moved to a different ward so our visit got cancelled. We found out that my brother was forcibly transferred to Elazığ prison after a very long time. As if it was not enough for them to cancel our open visit, they also cancelled out closed visit. Then, we met with him on May 11 and found out that he was being kept in solitary confinement without a reason. Bitlis Co-mayor Hüseyin Olan is also kept in solitary confinement for many weeks. The cells where they are kept are under construction. The food is bad. They are not given any letters or newspapers. They are not in a good condition."

THEIR ONLY CRIME IS TO SERVE THE PEOPLE

Ergül described the arrest of her brother İhsan Uğur and other Co-mayors as unjust, and said "My brother was doing his duty as a mayor elected by the people. His only crime was that people were pleased by his work. That is why he became a target. They are imprisoning not only him but also us and people’s will with these policies. Our only wish is that this unjust arrest ends immediately."
