Jailed journalists and lawyers on hunger strike

Jailed journalists and lawyers of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan have joined the hunger strike led by Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and Kurdistan Women’s Liberation Party (PAJK) prisoners in Turkey jails.

The hunger strike which begun on 12 September has been joined by ten thousand prisoners on November 5. All Kurdish political prisoners except for the ill, old and children are now involved in the prison protest.

All political prisoners, excluding 30 with health problems, in Kandýra F Type Prison No 1 and 2, all those in Bakýrköy Women’s Prison, excluding 20 with health problems, and all KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) prisoners in Silivri Prison No 2, excluding 17, have joined the protest three days ago.

During the meeting with their lawyers on Wednesday, the jailed Kurdish journalists in Kandýra and Bakýrköy Prisons in Istanbul announced their participation in the hunger strike and stated that they will not end their action until the highlighted fair demands are met.
