The Justice Vigil, launched by the families of prisoners for the freedom of the sick prisoners and the prisoners who are denied release despite having completed their sentences, continued outside Diyarbakır D Type Closed Prison on its 239th day. Members of the Association for Assistance and Solidarity with the Families of Detainees and Convicts (TUAY-DER), the 78'ers Initiative, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) also attended today’s vigil to give support to families.
A prisoner's relative, Herdem Merwanî, said that the Justice Vigil would enter its 9th month in a few days. He noted that although the demands they have voiced in their vigil are social demands, the authorities have ignored them.
Merwanî remarked that since some prisoners were transferred to jails in distant cities, their families could not visit them during this year’s feast of the sacrifice. “We are being punished as the families of prisoners,” Merwanî added.
