Kaya: Lawyer Timtik's condition worsening in hospital

Lawyer Ebru Timtik, who has been on death fast for 235 days demanding a fair trial has been held in hospital against her will for 26 days and her condition is worsening.

Lawyer Ebru Timtik, who has been on death fast for 235 days demanding a fair trial, has been held in the prison ward of Bakırköy Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital against her will for 26 days despite a report by the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) saying she cannot stay in prison.

Her cousin Demet Kaya, who has been caring for Timtik for 6 days, said that Timtik already bad conditions in the hospital have worsened. Speaking to ANF, Kaya drew attention to the fact that Timtik, is constantly dizzy and unable to get up. She added that she could no longer take even B vitamins.

Kaya said that when she first joined Timtik to help her, on 12 August, she found her relatively well, but her condition worsened due to the psychological pressure she is in.

“She was very happy when I joined her. She started talking to me. Her voice was good too. She was meeting her needs alone so as not to burden me. However, on the second day, when her energy suddenly fell, I realized that she was trying to stand firm so as not to upset me. The room she is held in was very bad. We were constantly under the surveillance of the gendarme, the chief guard. They were constantly looking at us from the window. Nurses and doctors came every two hours and they were constantly asking my cousin, ‘Are you continuing the death fast?’, ‘Are you still refusing treatment?’ On the other hand, the doctors who entered the room collectively at the weekend told her ‘We will not do anything unless you lose consciousness, but when you do, we will intervene.’”

Kaya added that nurses and staff pay no attention to hygiene, they enter the room without wearing overshoes and gloves and speak to Timtik staying very close to her mouth. There is a constant harassment even by nurse who comes every two hours even during the night.

Kaya said that difficulties were made at any request and added that the gendarmerie started a dispute even for a tea. “Ebru asked for tea to be brought, but the gendarmerie refused. She had to argue and shout just for a cup of tea, and this of course made her very tired.”

Kaya pointed out that Timtik health condition has worsened in recent days. Her headaches have increased, she has constantly diarrhoea, she cannot even take B vitamins due to the wounds in her throat and has difficulty getting up because she is constantly dizzy. Stating that her cousin does not trust the doctors in the hospital, she demanded to meet with independent doctors: "If she had stayed in prison she would not have been in such a bad situation, but her immune system is rapidly collapsing due to the psychological pressure she is exposed to every day in the hospital."
