Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Presidency released a statement on the ongoing hunger strike in Turkey prisons and called on the AKP government to meet the “fair and realistic” demands highlighted by prisoners.
Referring to the solitary confinement authorities impose on Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, KCK said that the removal of the measure would be the only way to unlock the current situation in Turkey. “On the basis of the struggle for the freedom of the Kurdish leader, our people and movement have enhanced resistance in all areas against the unlawful and inhuman isolation regime imposed in Imralý and the policy of violence followed by the AKP government”, it underlined.
KCK described the indefinite-irreversible hunger strike by prisoners as an honorable stance against the AKP oppression and underlined that prisoners have chosen this protest without any pressure. “Our movement and people should support this resistance”, it added and underlined that the KCK considers the demands of prisoners as reasonable and realistic demands for basic rights.
KCK continued calling on the Kurdish people to further enhance their democratic reaction and support for the prison resistance which has already entered a highly critical phase on the 56th day.
“We trust the protest could be ended should the fair demands of prisoners be satisfied before death start”, the statement noted and ended with a call to the AKP government to take a favorable and constructive approach towards those working for a solution and not to consider the fulfillment of prisoners’ demands as a back-step or weakness.
