Kürkçü: Prisoners' voice must be heard

In a press conference in front of Mersin E Type Closed Prison in support to prisoners on hunger strike on Tuesday, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) deputy Ertuðrul Kürkçü protested against the silence on the hunger strike which has reached day 43 and called on everyone to strengthen the voice raised from prisons.

The press conference in front of the prison was also joined by BDP’s Akdeniz Mayor Fazýl Türk and Human Rights Association (IHD) Mersin chair Ali Tanrýverdi who pointed out that the demands of prisoners should be met to avoid death in consideration of the current critical health conditions of prisoners on the 43rd day of the strike.

BDP deputy Kürkçü called for support from all sections of the society saying that “While thousands of people behind walls believe they can solve the problem, politicians, academicians, writers and journalists have still taken no remarkable steps on this way despite having a wider area of movement and communication.”

Kürkçü went on saying that "We have been losing people for the last twenty years in this country while this territory is now asking for living and people are risk their lives for it. We want life to succeed not death, peace, not war and the oppressed, not the cruel.”
