An application was made for the release of HDP former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ, who was taken hostage by the Turkish government and put in prison.
Yüksekdağ's lawyers applied to Ankara 16th High Criminal Court for her release, citing the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling on HDP former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş as a precedent.
After the main case opened against Yüksekdağ, the Ankara 16th High Criminal Court and the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a second arrest warrant on the grounds of the so called 6-8 October Kobanê incidents.
The petition filed by the lawyers quoted the ruling of European Court of Human Rights and reminded that Turkey is a signatory of the European Convention on Human Rights. “We request the immediate release of our client – said the lawyers - in accordance with the precedent and binding decision of the ECHR Grand Chamber."
