The Independent Lawyers Group in Mardin filed a criminal complaint against the mayors and trustees who served in the past or are still in office in 10 cities and 41 districts affected by the latest devastating earthquakes. The complaint before Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was brought against 134 mayors who served after 1999 and those still in office in Diyarbakır, Urfa, Maraş, Malatya, Adıyaman, Antep, Osmaniye, Hatay, Adana and Kilis.
Amed Metropolitan Municipality’s trustee Ali İhsan Su and Yenişehir’s former trustee mayor Murat Beşikçi were also included in the criminal complaint.
In a statement on behalf of the lawyers, Ahmet Duyan said: “All those responsible should be prosecuted, and they will.”
The criminal complaint said that the mayors were the “perpetrators”.
