In a report prepared following a visit to prisoners on hunger strike in Midyat M Type Prison, Þýrnak Bar Association stated that almost all prisoners on fast were complaining of bleeding, tiredness, difficulty in speaking, dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting. The report also remarks that fasting Mazlum Dilek faces inability to speak and loss of consciousness.
The visit by President Nuþirevan Elçi and 20 lawyers was performed to see the state of health and hear the demands of prisoners on fast. Lawyers spoke to nine prisoners on strike and were denied permission to see three others on the grounds of their conviction.
The determinations of the lawyers are listed as follows;
1- Complaints of bleeding, tiredness, difficulty in speaking, dizziness, headache, nausea and vomiting has been observed in almost all prisoners on hunger strike. Mazlum Dilek whom we weren’t allowed to see has been reported to be facing inability to speak and loss of consciousness.
2- Strikers expressed that they weren’t provided with medical treatment in the first six days as they refused to go to the medical room, given B1 vitamin after the 12th day on conditions of paying for it.
3- They highlighted their demands and indicated that they will continue their act until these demands are met.
The report noted that prisoners on fast criticized Turkish intellectuals, authors, democrat circles, press members, columnists, bar associations and lawyers for not displaying enough concern towards the strike.
