Makbule Özer, who was sent to prison despite her advanced age and serious illnesses, was referred to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute.

Makbule Özer was arrested on 9 May, after being sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in prison for "aiding a terrorist organization" in Van's Edremit district.

80-year-old Makbule Özer and her 79-year-old husband Hadi Özer had previously been detained with their children on 24 July 2018. As a result of the investigation conducted against the Özer couple, a lawsuit was filed. The 2 years and 6 months’ prison sentence given to the Özer couple by the local court was upheld by the higher court. The couple were first taken into custody and then sent to prison on 9 May.

Özer's health problems worsened and he could not stay alone in prison.

The prisoner's lawyers applied to the authorized prosecutor's office for Özer to be released due to his health problems.

After the application, it was learned that Özer was transferred to Istanbul ATK on Tuesday, 23 August.

Özer was hospitalized on July 2 due to health problems.
