Male guards attack female prisoners on hunger strike in Tarsus

Male guards have attacked the prisoners on hunger strike in Tarsus C Type Closed Prison, and seized their books and letters.

Female prisoners in Tarsus C Type Closed Prison made a statement through their families regarding the indefinite-irreversible hunger strike they started on March 15.

The statement by female prisoners is as follows;

"Our friends Nurşen Tekin, Aycan Özdoğan, Fadime Şahin, Saadet Akın and Sinem Oğuz are on an indefinite-irreversible hunger strike for 19 days. Other friends are joining the hunger strike in 5-person groups alternately for 5 days. The prison management does not provide participants of the hunger strike with their vitamin pills or salt and sugar. The prison manager is risking the health of our friends by saying that 'We have been instructed by the Ministry of Justice that prisoners will be given nothing other than daily food'. We will continue our fair struggle until our demands are met. We expect all the democratic circles to support our struggle. Berxwedan jiyane (Resistance is Life)."

Hunger strike participant Sinem Oğuz's sister Cemile Oğuz stated that the prisoners were pretty tired, exhausted and weak.

Quoting her sister on hunger strike whom she visited recently, Cemile Oğuz stated that male guards raided the wards of female prisoners and conducted a search, after which the guards attacked these prisoners and seized their books and letters.
