Coalition partner Environmental Party Greens MP Jabar Amin submitted a motion demanding Sweden take initiatives in the United Nations to have Erdoğan tried in the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Amin stated that the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has attacked press freedom and freedom of expression in the recent years and has carried out massacres in Kurdish cities, and listed Erdoğan’s crimes against humanity as follows:

“He threatened, accused and arrested independent journalists.

According to international press institutions, 150 journalists are imprisoned as of now.

He raided and shut down media institutions.

He threatened several academics with lawsuits and banned them from leaving the country.

He started a wave of arrests in the country against those who think differently.

According to Turkey’s own numbers, 32 thousand people are arrested.

More than a hundred thousand people were removed from office.

He started a war against the civilian population in several Kurdish cities.

He allowed cities to be bombed by artilleries and missiles.

He committed the crime of mass punishment of civilians.

He allowed some 400 attacks on the multi-ethnic opposition party HDP.

He removed 28 mayors from office, 24 of them Kurdish.

According to several reports, he supported ISIS, he gave them weapons and provided logistical aid.

He gave permission to his soldiers to bomb hundreds of villages in Kurdistan.

He carried out attacks on Rojava, he implemented an embargo.

He entered another country’s territory and invaded part of Syria.”

Amin said Erdoğan took Hitler as an example while doing all these and pointed out his comments in praise of Hitler.

Expressing that Erdoğan committed the crimes of murder of civilians, imprisonment of civilians and torture of civilians according to Article 7 of the Convention of Rome, Amin demands his motion be voted in the Swedish Parliament and Sweden take the matter to the UN in case his motion is approved.
