Prisoners beaten in Malatya jail are on hunger strike

16 prisoners who were transferred to Malatya Akçadağ T Type Closed Prison announced that they have been on a hunger strike for 10 days to protest the beating and harassment during their transfer.

16 prisoners who have been transferred from Malatya Closed Prison to the newly established Malatya Akçadağ T Type Closed Prison were subjected to assault and harassment during the transfer.

To protest this violence, the prisoners conveyed to their families that they had been on a hunger strike for 10 days. They said that they were beaten in the transfer vehicle and subjected to strip searches.

10 days on hunger strike

The prisoners said that their clothes were torn upon their opposition to be strip searched and added that they have been placed in the quarantine ward on the grounds of coronavirus.

Calling on the Human Rights Association (IHD) and rights defenders, the prisoners called for a delegation to visit the jail.
