Prisoners on day 33 of hunger strike determined to resist

The hunger strikes launched in prisons to end the isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan continue on their 33rd day. The pressure on the prisoners who insist on the resistance is also increasing.

The indefinite and alternating hunger strikes launched on November 27 by political prisoners against the isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan continue on their 33rd day after the 7th group took over the action.

PRESSURES ON PRISONERS INCREASED

The pressure of the prison administrations against the prisoners partaking in the action also increased. Recently, the prisoners who are on hunger strike against isolation in Tarsus Prison revealed that the prison administration did not provide the necessary materials such as salt, sugar and lemon.

In Kandıra Prison, private belongings were seized during the searches carried out in the wards where political prisoners were staying on the day when they started their action.

While disciplinary penalties were given to women who continued their indefinite and alternating hunger strike in Alanya L Type Closed Prison, it is reported that the phone calls of prisoners who used their right to communication were cut off after they spoke about the rights violations they experienced.

The hunger strike in Urfa continues under the coronavirus epidemic conditions. Despite the increasing number of cases, prisoners are not tested.

Meanwhile, since the day the protest started, the pressure has increased in Şakran Women's Closed Prison. The prisoners in Şakran told: "Ward searches are frequent. Every evening, when the guards come to enumerate inmates, they don't have their masks on their faces. The prices in canteen have also doubled. Sometimes we write down our needs in a list, yet those in charge do not provide them. We wanted to buy cleaning materials and pets, but we could not buy them because they were not sold in the canteen. The electricity bill to the wards is very high. The guards threaten us saying that ‘if you do not pay the electricity bill, we will cut your electricity off’."

The prisoners call on the public to claim the action, stating that they will remain determined until the isolation is lifted.

MAXMUR

In the meantime, the hunger strike launched by women against the Imrali isolation in the Maxmur Camp in Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) on December 18 continues. The action in the Maxmur Martyrs' Families Association marks its 12th day.
