Release of ill prisoner in jail for 30 years postponed

The release of Bekir Yollu, an ill prisoner in Kırşehir Prison, has been blocked for the second time. Yollu has been in jail for 30 years.

Despite having completed his 30-year sentence, Bekir Yollu, an ill prisoner held hostage in Kırşehir High Security Prison, was not released on the grounds that he was not showing "good behavior."

Yollu was taken into custody in 1993. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM) where he was tried for "disrupting the unity and integrity of the State."

The Prison Administration and Monitoring Board ruled that Yollu, who completed his sentence in December 2023, was not showing "good behavior" on the grounds that he participated in hunger strikes, received disciplinary punishments and did not participate in "rehabilitation programs."

The board postponed Yollu’s release twice for 6 months.
