Saturday' Mothers staged new protest in Istanbul

The Saturday Mothers staged a sit in on Galatasaray Square in Istanbul for the 269th time and addressed the AKP government by saying: “We are the mothers of guerrillas, soldiers and miners who have been killed, you are the killer.”

Hanife Yildiz, a mother of a missing person, made a speech at the demonstration. She blamed government for the deaths of soldiers, guerillas and miners by saying; “We are the mothers, you are the killers. We have been waiting for 15 years to get news of our missing love ones. How long do we need to wait to learn?”

A banner read: ‘Disappeared people are certain, where are the perpetrators?”. It was dedicated to Cemal Karabayir, who disappeared in 1980 when he was 24 year-old, and Servet Ipek, Ikram Ipek and Seyithan Yolur who had been taken into custody by soldiers and disappeared.

Cemal Karabayir’s mother Fatma Karabayýr, spoke at the meeting: “Find our sons, fathers, husbands, friends and relatives, beloved ones and punish the responsible people. We have been waiting for justice for a long time.”

Disappeared Fehim Tosun’s widow Hanim Tosun also addressed at the meeting to ask AKP administration to end this pain which thousands of people have shared.

Dancer Zeynep Tanbay spoke at the meeting on behalf of Ipek and Yolur families: “There were evidences and witnesses about Ipek' brothers and Yolur being taken into custody. Nothing has been done since. Now the family of Ipek will take the case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). We ask the judiciary to put on trial Major Osman Duman, lieutenant colonel Turgut Arpi, lieutenant Sahap Yarali, sergeant major Sukru Gunlukcu and General Yavuz Erturk for their cover up of evidences relevant to the cases of the Ipek brothers and Yolur".
