Seriously ill prisoner Ahmet Çakal, who was jailed for 30 years for political reasons, was released after completing his sentence. Çakal, who was released from Buca Kırıklar No. 1 F Type Prison, was arrested in Aydın in 1994.
After the trial at the State Security Court (DGM), he was sentenced to life imprisonment on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the State".
Çakal, who was released from prison at the age of 72, was welcomed in front of the prison by his family and the managers of the Aegean Association for Assistance with Relatives of Detainees and Convicts (EGE TUHAYDER) with flowers.
Speaking after leaving the prison, Çakal said that the 30 years he spent in prison were not easy, but “patience and hopes keeps people alive”, he said, adding: “I wish all my friends in prison to be freed. I want our people to live a free and honorable life."
