A new signature campaign was launched by the Freedom of Defense Coordination for lawyers Aytaç Ünsal and Ebru Timtik who are on death fast demanding a fair trial.
The two lawyers, Aytaç Ünsal and Ebru Timtik, went on hunger strike on 5 February 2020, demanding "the right to a fair trial”. They turned this action into a death fast on 5 April, 5, International Lawyers' Day.
The Freedom of Defense Coordination expressed its concern about Ünsal and Timtik who are clearly risking their life.
The Coordination said: "As the public opinion knows, 18 lawyers, members of ÇHD (Contemporary Lawyers Association), have been sentenced to a total of 159 years in prison, violating all procedural safeguards and the right to defense and to a fair trial. The judges who had issued a release order were forced to take their decisions back and were then removed from the case. This abrupt decision has been brought before the Supreme Court. As signatories of this text, we are concerned about the politicized judiciary currently prevailing in Turkey."
The statement continued: “We call on everyone to support the ÇHD lawyers and sign the petition supporting the lawyers’ demand for a fair trial.”
The Coordination added that those who want to support the campaign can send their names, surnames, occupation and city to "[email protected]".
